Erica Van Steen is a Lead Associate at Herren where she leads the performance management practice and pro bono practice. She typically supports clients in public sector start-ups or reorganization efforts, and in emerging policy or cross-governmental environments. Erica’s advisory and design experience spans developing organizational strategies using systems thinking techniques, facilitating multi-stakeholder partnerships, conducting exploratory and evaluative research, and creating outcomes-based pilot projects. In the past seven years, Erica advised multiple agencies in implementing impactful Federal programs. Her clients have included a variety of civil and defense agencies with education, science and technology, and healthcare missions. Prior to her consulting career, she worked as an evaluator/researcher and facilitator in the nonprofit sector, including at the Partnership for Public Service.
Erica earned an MS in Social Policy Research from the London School of Economics and a BA with comprehensive honors in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a board member of the National Chapter for the American Society for Public Administration and a committee member for the Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s AIM Award, which recognizes management excellence in 501(c)3 organizations. She is a member of Phi Beta Kapa, a certified Human Capital Strategist, and holds certificates in survey design and survey psychology. Erica is also an active member in the American Evaluation Association, American Society for Public Administration, and an avid reader of the Stanford Social Innovation Review.
Erica enjoys traveling with her husband, hiking with their dog Norbit, and hosting dinner parties. She and her husband also enjoy their annual visits his home country of Greece to be with their extended family and enjoy the beautiful water of the Aegean Sea.
