Energy Efficiency and Greener Footprints

Nothing is more important to America than energy. It is the bedrock of our economy, the driving force behind our foreign policy, and the security for our families and future. As America becomes increasingly dependent on foreign and non-renewable sources of energy, it is essential for the Federal Government to promote renewable sources that provide energy efficiency and independence. This is not an easy task. The energy and environmental landscape is as vast as it is complex, requiring a wide range of expertise from market forecasting to performance improvement as well as understanding engineering and regulatory issues.

With rapidly increasing gas prices, the budgets of the government and the American people are equally and adversely affected. The fluctuation of crude oil prices over the past decade—from $30 per barrel in 2001 to a high of $146 per barrel in 2008—has specifically taken a toll on the Department of Defense (DOD). For every $10 per barrel increase in the cost of fuel, DOD operating budgets rise by roughly $1.3 billion.

Faced with major energy security challenges fundamental to executing missions afloat and ashore, the Navy has turned to Herren for solutions. Our team evaluated resources, processes, and programs to develop an initiative to reduce the Navy’s environmental footprint—all while ensuring mobility, protecting critical infrastructure, and expanding tactical reach. We designed a framework for making energy-conscious decisions to support future growth and challenges. By 2020, the Navy will increase efficiency and resources by 15%, with at least half of its energy needs being filled by non-fossil fuel sources.

Herren has the tools and experience to provide similar expertise and solutions throughout the Federal Government, as well as in the private sector.

Let us show you how.
